A controlled path out of active SharePoint storage
Every first run starts with a review. Every source removal waits for a verified archive copy.

Built for
Archive work that is finished without making it disappear
Document-heavy teams cleaning up old files
Move older, larger, or policy-matched documents out of active storage while keeping a visible path back to each file. Teams can find the stub where the file used to live and restore it after a permission check.
Design, engineering, and media firms closing projects
Use path rules to scope a policy to a closed project folder, then restore the files from that archive job together when work resumes. Linked files such as CAD references should be archived with the project because ClayGen Archive does not automatically detect dependencies.

Three different ways to handle SharePoint capacity
Microsoft 365 Archive has a lower per-GB list price. ClayGen Archive is designed around file-level findability, controlled removal, and self-serve restoration.

The archive path is ordered around verification, change detection, and recoverability. Removal is the last step, not the first.
Customer archive data and its encryption key stay in the AWS Canada Central region.
Verified before deletion
ClayGen checks the stored size and SHA-256 checksum. The SharePoint original is never deleted unless the archive copy is verified.
Change guard
If the source file changes while it is being archived, the delete is refused so the edited SharePoint copy stays in place.
Microsoft recycle bin
When a verified original is removed, it also goes to the Microsoft recycle bin as another recovery path.
Canadian storage and keys
Customer data is stored in AWS ca-central-1 and encrypted with an AWS KMS key reserved for Archive storage.
Optional immutable copies
Compliance copies can be placed under S3 Object Lock so they cannot be deleted during the retention period.
30-day stored-object history
Stored objects retain 30 days of version history for recovery from an accidental overwrite or retention action.
ClayGen Archive questions
Details about Microsoft 365 Archive, restores, storage, project folders, pricing, and cancellation.
How is this different from Microsoft 365 Archive?
Microsoft 365 Archive for SharePoint is a Microsoft service priced at USD $0.05 per GB per month for storage above the tenant quota. It archives whole sites, with file-level archiving in preview, archived content is not searchable by end users, and Azure pay-as-you-go billing must be configured. ClayGen Archive is not positioned as cheaper than that service. It focuses on file and folder policies, a stub left in the original folder, self-serve restore with a permission check, a preview before every first run, Canadian storage and keys, optional immutable compliance copies, and no Azure billing setup.
What happens to users who open an archived file?
The original folder contains a small <filename>.archived.html stub. When someone opens it, they sign in and ClayGen checks that they still have access to that SharePoint location. If the permission check passes, they can restore the archived file back in place.
What if someone edits a file while it is being archived?
A change guard compares the SharePoint file version used for the archive operation. If the file changed during the process, ClayGen refuses to delete it. The edited original stays in SharePoint and the archive operation can be retried from the current version.
Can I archive a whole closed project?
Yes. A policy can use path rules to scope archiving to a project folder, and the files from that archive job can be restored together. Linked assets such as CAD references should be included with the project so the restored set stays complete. ClayGen Archive does not automatically discover file dependencies.
Where is my data stored?
Archived customer data is stored in AWS Canada Central, ca-central-1, and encrypted with an AWS KMS key reserved for Archive storage. Optional compliance copies can be held under S3 Object Lock for an assigned retention period.
What does it cost and how is usage measured?
The base price is CAD $20.00 per month. It includes 200 GB stored and 25 GB restored per month. Usage above either included amount is CAD $0.10 per GB-month stored or per GB restored. Stored usage is the daily average across the billing period. Restored usage is the total restored during the period. Both are converted to GB and rounded to hundredths of a GB. Billing is monthly through Stripe and there is no trial.
Can I cancel and get my files back?
Yes. After cancellation, Archive provides a 90-day recovery window for restores. After that recovery window ends, restores are no longer available, so contact ClayGen to arrange an export of any remaining archived data. Plan the return of files during the recovery window if you want them active in SharePoint again.
